Luigi da Latinowiz' DJ PRINCIPIA and his bootleg LatEEno compilations...
These DJ selections and respective mixes were originally made as personal choice for DJ-ing; carefully picked from colossal (but thoroughly selectively cleaned) collection of misc. Latin music. There are various styles, which were gathered during 15 years of listening, playing and collecting generally Latin and Latin-influenced music. It's a spicy mix of everything - up from Mexico / / (ie. TexMex, Mariachi, Bolero...) to Argentina / / (Tango, Electro-Tango...), geographically-speaking. Including: Brazil / / with samba and bossa nova, Cuba / / w/ rumba and salsa, Caribi w/ cumbia, bolero, bachata, raggaeton, calypso, and in general Latin-house, Latin-jazz, Timba, etc. I feeded upon not only production from Latin America, but also globally from all over; the best latin-lounge from Europe (Germany, Italy, Swiss...) but also from the places like Japan or USA.
One will notice how DJ preferance is on crossovers (fusions) of different genres (emerging into so called World-Beat cross-styling). Like the combination of electronic and Latin music. So there's a lot of it around: the latest, very eclectic and when it's possible even obscure, campy stuff (Yma Sumac, Carmen Miranda, Senor coconut or Elvis' only Latin excursion w/ the soundtrack of Fun in Acapulco). Being the music lover who's mostly experimenting with the combination of the distinct and abstract (ie. broad, wide) styles, I tried to apply the following three concepts in the compilations (from LatEEno 4 on):
- "Gaussian" approach - respectively: (a) an intro, the begining, (b) a culmination and the (c) down-tempo ending / outro;
- Two-Part; while the first part is always cheerful, dancy and 4/4 ("Four to the floor") oriented, the second half is more eclectic, curious (interesting), exotic and experimental (that's where the letter E in LatEEno is from: Eclectic, Exotic, Experimental... (the list on top of page!)
- Narrative / storytelling; meaning that I always try to order tracks so thay follow each other - w/ the noticable 'Middle Switch" (complying w/ the 2nd point).
On stage: a short video from DJ set at EXIT11 festival.
